Project 366 - day 10

I’m doing a project that will be spanning -hopefully, the rest of this year. It’s called 365 Project but since it’s the leap year, it’s 366. Wish me luck in my photographic endeavour.

I made it to day 10!

10/365: Surplus vs Shortage

When it comes to school, sadly there is more talk of shortage than surplus. It’s during these times that I wonder if the education of our youth is really that important to our society. People can ‘say’ one thing, yet the reality of things are many schools are without. I try to remember despite the lack of fundings, that the walls of our schools are still full — if we truly look hard enough. There are talented and hardworking people who make the foundation of education system - custodians, cafeteria staff, counselors, librarians, campus security, adminstrators, teachers, aides and various other school staff members. And within that structure are the big smiles, eager minds and bright futures of our students. Yes, nothing is perfect but I’d like to think that with every shortage, there are ten times the surplus of heart and dedication within those walls.

It’s back to the grind for me and my goal today for my photography was just to get close (as much as possible without a macro). Close and upfront. This had me thinking about things in my own life at this point. Photography helps remind me to look at the different angles and perspectives, and while this is pov in the photo is nothing unique… it’s really been a while since I’ve gotten down low and gritty with my photography or creativity, period. :) I managed to get low down and sink my arm onto a fallen thorny rosebush branch in the process. Reminding me that some times, looking too closely isn’t always comfortable but always necessary.

crazylovewords asked: How lucky to study with Noah! I have only taken his classes via YogaGlo online as I live on the East Coast, but his energy is just... Wow. Some of his classes have completely transformed my alignment. Thank you so much for the encouragement!

He is so intense! And immensely knowledgeable, I always feel like I work ten times harder in his classes. Yogaglo is such an amazing resource, we are all lucky to have it. He travels so much, it’s hard to take local classes fr him but this year, I am making a point of going when he’s in town. He’ll be here on Monday so I”m so excited. Can’t wait to read more about your journey into TT. Will be amazing.

Know yourself. You are the love of your own life. Love extravagantly–yourself and your chosen. Be kind. Do good work. Try to leave the world a bit better than it was before you got here. Laugh as often as possible. Be vast. Be miniscule beneath ancient stars. Don’t forget to sometimes run outside to grin foolishly at the moon.

new year threshold

Tucson, Az. Love love love!!!
outside yoga oasis
I’ve now had a few days to unwind, decompress and process the last several days. Bottomline: what a way to cross the threshold into 2012!

LA Kula Represent

I spent the last days of 2011 and first day of 2012 doing an advanced intensive workshop at Yoga Oasis in Tucson with Darren Rhodes, Christina Sell and Noah Maze called Tough as Nails, Soft as Ghee. I love that name for the workshop!!! I went with some awesome yogis, Davrick who I met at my Anusara Immersion and sweet Grace who I also met at the Immersion. There was a small contingent of people from LA, including Stephen and Susan and 50 other people from all over the country who joined these amazing teachers in Tucson.

day 2 session w noah maze

The advanced intensive consisted of 6 hours of yoga over 3 days. Our morning sessions were 3.5 hours long and the afternoon, 2.5 hours. During the first two days, we did some major backbends. Loved it. I love backbends! The last day was much more challenging for me, arm balances from headstand. Major arms and core work. It was exhausting. Christina spoke about the threshold, crossing it and being in that fire where at times it gets uncomfortable. In some ways the intensive represented some of the difficult times we all go through and basically our struggle to deal with it. That fight or flight response. Often it’s easier to just run but as with all my trainings, I’ve learned, if we’re gonna struggle and fall, what better group to do it with! What it let me know is that in that group, there is no being left out or isolated. I am part of that collective whole that supports and is supported regardless if I can do the pose or not. That fire we go through, burns but we make it and in our lives, there will always be more “thresholds” to cross. Each time, these crossings and experiences make us stronger.

day 2: tough as nails

Amazing Christina!!! She is so fiery and has a huge personality. Learned so much from her.

day 2 morning session

Noah’s intensity and focus. He is one of my favorite teachers.

day 3 morning session w darren

Darren!!! :) What a wonderful teacher and person. It was nice to feel so welcomed by him at his studio. So much warmth and compassion.

Again, I am humbled by having fantastic teachers around me, not only in Noah, Darren and Christina but all those who attended the workshop. In each of their actions and small connections I made, I learned that these bonds are so important in learning more about my yoga. It’s truly humbling.

There is so much I still have to process from the weekend but not enough words or time and so for now, I’ll just soak in it and see what may come. I’m excited for the rest of 2012 and what it has to bring. The possibilities are boundless and I’m ready and open.

I took a bunch of photos from the weekend. Here’s the set

Needless to say, it was amazing for me as a yogi and great to learn from three of the best teacher’s all around.
